Of course you do. You\u2019re only human.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">In fact, almost all US employees (80%) feel at least some amount of stress on the job, and about one-half of those workers want to learn how to manage their stress, according to <strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stress.org\/workplace-stress\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">American Institute of Stress<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">This is where people leaders can play a key role in helping workers, said Scott Domann, chief people officer at meditation app Calm, and be \u201crewarded with high productivity and employee satisfaction,\u201d he said. By creating a culture that values mindfulness, he told HR Brew he\u2019s been able to help his roughly 300 employees strike a \u201cstrong work-rest balance\u201d through daily meditations and company-wide mental health days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\"><strong>Meditations and breaks.<\/strong>\u00a0Two years ago, Calm started conducting twice-yearly engagement surveys, the results of which have helped shape the company\u2019s mindfulness programs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"style__FullViewportWidthContainer-sc-6fdcc87e-1 beAldL\">\n<div id=\"inline-recommended-content\" class=\"styles__InlineRecommendationWrapper-sc-b528df5-0 RShDF css-0\">\n<div class=\"style__ArticleBlock-sc-6c5f8bb2-4 kgDBnD\">\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">Every company-wide meeting starts with a group meditation, \u201cjust to give [employees] a second to center and give them an opportunity to go on that meditative journey,\u201d Domann said, adding that he enjoys starting meetings with guided meditations to help employees check in with themselves and reduce their stress and anxiety, a strategy research from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/tests-procedures\/meditation\/in-depth\/meditation\/art-20045858\">the Mayo Clinic<\/a>\u00a0supports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"styles__StoryToutsWrapper-sc-b528df5-1 dTIgWJ\">\n<article>\n<div class=\"style__Body-sc-d4efee78-3 jYdwqE\">\n<h6 class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 hOthGI\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Each employee also spends 15 minutes a day, Monday through Friday, meditating or listening to a Calm story as a group, Domann said, by having 15 minutes reserved on their calendars.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">\u201cIt\u2019s blocked on our calendar, so that even if you don\u2019t join the daily call, it\u2019s time that you don\u2019t schedule over,\u201d Domann said. \u201cFrom a mindfulness standpoint, regardless of what you do, you get a bit of a break\u2026and this leads back to the importance of rest, breaks, and being able to step away from your day-to-day.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"style__InlineSubscribeWrapper-sc-6c5f8bb2-1 ejIYkL\">\n<div id=\"inline-subscribe\" class=\"style__Container-sc-6fdcc87e-0 style__RoundedContainer-sc-6c630ac0-0 iTWzCH wGFGp\">\n<form class=\"style__Form-sc-6c630ac0-1 ipqWFq\">On top of this daily break, he added, the company also has a meeting-free Friday policy on the last Friday of every month in an effort to give employees focus time.<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\"><strong>Advice for other HR teams.\u00a0<\/strong>Domann said he has seen HR teams at other companies struggle to get employees to engage with mental health resources. That\u2019s why he has implemented a way for employees to care for their mental health how they choose, with five mental health days to be used alongside daily meditations and breaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">\u201cI encourage [other HR leaders] to make sure there are unified moments where everyone at the company is doing the same thing at the same time,\u201d Domann said. \u201cThat way, it\u2019s not like Scott\u2019s people team is taking a mental health day but the engineering team isn\u2019t\u2026so if everybody is taking that day off, then everyone has the opportunity to fully take off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__StyledText-sc-2252f3c6-12 bEespx\">Domann said he understands that it may be harder for people leaders whose businesses don\u2019t revolve around mindfulness to get employees to engage with mental health initiatives.
