After the survey, participants were given a test to assess their neurocognitive abilities. The results showed those who had low to moderate perceived stress levels benefited psychologically and could prevent developing mental health conditions.<\/p>\n<section class=\"borders b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\"><span class=\"prefix\">Explore<\/span><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/pulse\/how-reaching-out-to-old-friends-can-benefit-your-mental-health-and-theirs\/B3HC4AQXE5CKLBIKBOEBTT2KXQ\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">How reaching out to old friends can benefit your mental health and theirs<\/a><\/section>\n<p class=\"story-text\" data-index=\"6\">\u201cIf you\u2019re in an environment where you have some level of stress, you may develop coping mechanisms that will allow you to become a more efficient and effective worker and organize yourself in a way that will help you perform,\u201d said Assaf Oshri, lead author of the study and associate professor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"story-nativo_placeholder--moap b-clear-both\">Stress can act as a motivator, allowing you to accomplish goals and lead a healthier lifestyle, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summahealth.org\/flourish\/entries\/2021\/01\/stress-management-how-to-tell-the-difference-between-good-and-bad-stress#:~:text=Stress%20helps%20you%20meet%20your,vital%20for%20a%20healthy%20life.&amp;text=You%20may%20think%20any%20type,that%20isn't%20the%20case.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Summa Health<\/a>. However, the study warns against too much stress, which can have the reverse effect.<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-section b-sectionHome-padding\n\n          b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\n          \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"c-contentElements\">\n<p class=\"story-text\" data-index=\"2\">\u201cAt a certain point, stress becomes toxic,\u201d Oshri said. \u201cChronic stress, like the stress that comes from living in abject poverty or being abused, can have very bad health and psychological consequences. It affects everything from your immune system, to emotional regulation, to brain functioning. Not all stress is good stress.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-section\">Positive stress, also known as eustress, is short term, feels challenging yet manageable, and occurs when you feel confident, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalnewstoday.com\/articles\/eustress-vs-distress#comparison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medical News Today<\/a>. It can be either long or short term, feels unmanageable or overwhelming, and occurs when your self-efficacy is low, according to Medical News Today. Physical signs of stress include tension headaches, digestive issues, and changes to heart and blood pressure, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/stress-management\/stress-level-too-high\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WebMD<\/a>. Emotional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/stress-management\/stress-level-too-high\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signs of stress could include<\/a>\u00a0anger, irritability, issues with sleep and problems with memory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text\" data-index=\"6\">\u201cIt\u2019s like when you keep doing something hard and get a little callous on your skin,\u201d Oshri said. \u201cYou trigger your skin to adapt to this pressure you are applying to it.
