Even positive life changes, like having a baby, getting a promotion or planning a wedding, can take a toll.<\/p>\n<p>But Chaudhary says there is one positive takeaway from this trend: \u201cThe increase in searches today is also a sign that people might be more aware of their mental health, and are actively looking for ways to take control of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are some practical ways that Chaudhary and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drksmerling.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathryn Smerling<\/a>, a psychotherapist, suggest reducing stress and improving your overall mental health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"ArticleBody-styles-makeit-subtitle--JP3GH\"><a id=\"headline0\"><\/a>\u2018The best stress relief is the one you\u2019ll actually do\u2019<\/h4>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>When it comes to lowering stress levels, both Chaudhary and Smerling suggest acknowledging what\u2019s in your control and accepting what\u2019s not. After all, \u201chaving stressors we can\u2019t avoid is part of life. It\u2019s never not going to be the case,\u201d Chaudhary says.<\/p>\n<p>The aspect you can best control is how you respond to and deal with the emotions you experience. In most cases, \u201cif you make healthy choices, you will get through stress,\u201d Smerling says.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some coping mechanisms that Chaudhary and Smerling recommend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking a walk outside and getting some sun<\/li>\n<li>Practicing meditation and mindfulness<\/li>\n<li>Having face-to-face interactions with friends and family<\/li>\n<li>Putting together a playlist of your favorite songs and blasting it<\/li>\n<li>Calling a friend to vent or chat<\/li>\n<li>Focusing on developing healthy habits like exercising, getting better sleep or eating nutritious foods<\/li>\n<li>Working with a trained mental health professional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe key is to find a way to manage stress that realistically fits into your life without adding more stress,\u201d Chaudhary says. \u201cThe best stress relief is the one you\u2019ll actually do. It doesn\u2019t have to be perfect, [it] just has to be doable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both experts suggest seeking help if the stress management tactics that usually work aren\u2019t helping anymore.
