It can affect someone&#8217;s ability to concentrate,&#8221; she explains.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/tests-procedures\/stress-management\/about\/pac-20384898\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-di-id=\"di-id-cb0ad485-bfa7e61e\">Managing stress\u00a0<\/a>depends on each person&#8217;s individual needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stress is often going to be our body&#8217;s response to a certain trigger to a certain situation. So ways to respond are going to need to be personalized,&#8221; Dr. Allen says.<\/p>\n<p>Reducing or managing stress could include journaling,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/tests-procedures\/meditation\/in-depth\/meditation\/art-20045858\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-di-id=\"di-id-7383e525-411805a7\">meditation<\/a>, reading a book or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/stress-management\/in-depth\/exercise-and-stress\/art-20044469\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-di-id=\"di-id-2b848946-24f2cdbe\">physical activity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Allen says yoga could be another strategy. She says it&#8217;s important to make changes one step at a time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we try to change everything all at once, we end up setting ourselves up for further stress or feeling overwhelmed,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional strategies include<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eat a healthy diet, get regular exercise and plenty of sleep.<\/li>\n<li>Take time for hobbies, such as reading or listening to music.<\/li>\n<li>Foster healthy friendships and talk with friends and family.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer in your community.<\/li>\n<li>Organize and focus on what you need to get done at home and work, and remove tasks that aren&#8217;t needed.<\/li>\n<li>Seek professional counseling.
