{"id":106290,"date":"2024-11-25T15:11:06","date_gmt":"2024-11-25T15:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stress.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=106290"},"modified":"2024-11-25T15:11:06","modified_gmt":"2024-11-25T15:11:06","slug":"the-benefits-of-owning-an-animal-during-the-school-year","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.stress.org\/news\/the-benefits-of-owning-an-animal-during-the-school-year\/","title":{"rendered":"The benefits of owning an animal during the school year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The transition from being at home to going to college can be a lot for some students and having a pet can help that transition. \u201cI think it helps a lot of people out,\u201d Nalanie Pecora, senior English professional and creative writing, wine studies and psychology major and staff reporter at The Observer said. \u201cI think, it [pets] definitely gives people the emotional support in themselves, and because college, for students who haven\u2019t been doing it as long as I have, it\u2019s really a struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to<a href=\"http:\/\/stress.org\"><strong> The American Institute of Stress<\/strong><\/a>, 45% of American college students experience \u201cmore than average stress.\u201d A survey done by beyondthetreat.com showed that 90% of college-student respondents found their stress levels lowered thanks to their furry friend.<\/p>\n<p>Pecora, brought their dog, Apricity, to campus. \u201cApricity is a miniature Australian shepherd, and she\u2019s deaf and has a little bit of sight issues,\u201d Pecora said.<b>\u00a0\u201c<\/b>The word itself means warm sun on a winter day.
